Command Sergeant Major, Eighth Army

Command Sergeant Major Robert H. Cobb enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1993. He attended one station unit training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, earning a certification as a light wheel vehicle mechanic. He then attended Basic Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia and was later assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Cobb reclassed to become a Cavalry Scout in June 1996 at Fort Knox, Kentucky and then returned to Fort Bragg. Before assuming his current position as the Eighth Army CSM, he served as the 1st Armored Division Senior Enlisted Adviser at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Other positions CSM Cobb has served in include: the Train Advise Assist Command South Senior Enlisted Adviser in Afghanistan; CSM of 1st Brigade Combat Team (BCT); 82nd Airborne Division; 82nd Airborne Division operations sergeant major (SGM); 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment battalion CSM; 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment (Airborne) operations SGM; 1st BCT, 82nd (ABN) brigade plans SGM; Troop A, 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment (Airborne) first sergeant; HHC, 3rd BCT, 82nd (Airborne) first sergeant; HHC, Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd BCT (ABN) first sergeant; and platoon sergeant in Troop C, 73rd Cavalry Regiment (Airborne); Other duty assignments include Troop D, 1st Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment; HHC, 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor; and Troop A, 1st Squadron (Airborne), 17th Cavalry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. CSM Cobb has served on multiple combat tours, including Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Resolute Support.

CSM Cobb's military and civilian education includes Primary Leaders Development Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course and the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 63). He is also a graduate of the following military courses: Drill Sergeant School, Emergency Medical Technician (Basic), Basic Airborne School, Air Assault School, Scout Leaders course, Advanced Airborne school (Jumpmaster), Pathfinder course, and Air Assault School. Command Sergeant Major Cobb has an associate degree in General Studies from American Military University and a B.S. in Leadership and Interdisciplinary Studies.

CSM Cobb’s awards and decorations include: the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters (OLC), Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device, Bronze Star Medal with three OLC, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with four OLC, Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device, Army Commendation Medal with five OLC, Army Achievement Medal with seven OLC, Korean Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, and the NATO Medal for International Security and Assistance Force, Afghanistan Campaign Medal. He has also earned the Combat Action Badge, Masters Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, British Parachutist Badge, Dutch Parachutist Badge, and Italian Parachutist Badge. He is a Knight in the Order of Saint George (Bronze Medallion), Order of Saint Maurice (Legionnaire) member of the Excellence in Armor Program, recipient of the Draper Armor Leadership Award, and was inducted as a distinguished member of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He has earned his Silver and Gold combat spurs.

CSM Cobb and his wife have three children.
