Brigadier General Patrick J. Donahoe
Deputy Commanding General - Operations, Eighth Army
Brigadier General Donahoe, a native of New Jersey, received his commission in May of 1989 through the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at Villanova University. Brigadier General Donahoe holds a Bachelor of Arts in History, a Masters of Advanced Military Studies, and a Masters of National Security and Strategic Studies. His military education includes the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses and is a graduate of the United States Navy Command and General Staff College, and Senior Service College Fellowship at Harvard University.
Brigadier General Donahoe most recently served as the DCG-O and Acting Senior Commander, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.
His previous assignments include: Platoon Leader and Support Platoon Leader in the 2d Battalion, 72d Armor Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, Eighth United States Army, Republic of Korea; Executive Officer of D Troop, 5th Squadron, 12th Cavalry at Ft. Knox, Kentucky; Commander, A Troop, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Division in Germany during the Implementation Force in Bosnia-Herzegovina; Operations Officer for 1st Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Infantry Division at Ft Riley, Kansas; Operations Officer of the Intrinsic Action Task Force, Kuwait; Brigade Operations Officer for 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas; Commander, 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Hood, Texas and deployed to Iraq where the battalion conducted counter-insurgency operations in Babil and Karbala Provinces and earned the Valorous Unit Citation for actions against the enemy. Following command, he was assigned to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California where he served initially, as a battalion trainer leading the Scorpion Team, and then led the Bronco Team as the brigade trainer. He commanded the 4th Cavalry Brigade at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He also served in Afghanistan as the Senior Advisor to General Sher Mohammed Karimi, the Chief of the General Staff of the Afghan National Army, from July 2013 to June 2014. In September 2014 he became the Chief of Staff, US Army Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Brigadier General Donahoe’s other assignments include: Aide-de-Camp for the Deputy Commanding General of Recruiting Command, Fort Knox, KY; V Corps G-3 Assistant Operations Officer, Germany; Branch Qualified Armor Captain's Assignment Officer, HRC in Alexandria, Virginia; Faculty member of the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island; Director, Directorate of Training and Doctrine, MCOE, Fort Benning, Georgia, and Director, CJ-5, HQ Resolute Support, Afghanistan.
Brigadier General Donahoe’s decorations and badges include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Korean Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, NATO Medal (Balkans and ISAF clasps) and the Combat Action Badge.
Brigadier General Donahoe and his wife, Theresa, have been married for over 24 years and have three daughters, Peyton, Brenna, and Delaney.
